The McGaw YMCA residence for men is situated in our historic building in the heart of Evanston. We offer convenience, security and comfort at a price you can afford. Here you’ll find a sense of community, whether in our welcoming Chinnock Lounge, working out with a friend in our state-of-the-art athletic facility, or in our professional staff.
The McGaw YMCA is just two blocks from the CTA Purple Line, the Metra North Line, and Pace and CTA buses in the heart of Evanston, in a charming residential neighborhood on a beautiful tree-lined street. At our Y you are only steps away from all the conveniences and attractions of downtown Evanston.
Rooms are available, with the convenience of weekly rates, for both long and short-term stays. They are also available at a daily rate for those who are coming to Evanston for a night or two.
All rooms include:
- Fully furnished with bed, dresser, desk, closet
- Housekeeping service
- Fresh towels daily
- Fresh linens weekly
- Refrigerator
- 172 rooms with air conditioning (either central or units)
- 49 rooms have sinks
All resident members can enjoy the following services:

Weekly room rates:
Room rates range from $131.00 to $157.00* per week depending on room size and features. Rooms are also available at a daily rate of $47.00.
*Please note that fees quoted do not include taxes.
Application process:
To apply for residency, please visit the McGaw YMCA during normal building hours and ask for an application at the front desk. After completing your application, please submit it to the residence office during the following hours:
Monday – Wednesday 3:00pm – 9:00pm
Thursday 3:00pm – 7:00pm
Friday 3:00pm – 9:00pm
Saturday – Sunday 1:00pm – 5:00pm
No application fees, no security deposit, no credit check, no lease, and flexible move-in and move-out dates!
Applicants will be asked to provide the following information:
- State I.D., Driver’s License, or Passport
- Proof of income
- References
- A criminal background check is required for all applicants
