NEW FOR 2014 – Family Adventure Trips!!!
For almost 30 years Camp Echo has offered adventure trips to youth campers. This summer, for the first time in almost 20 years, we will be offering trips for our families to experience together. There are two options: Canoeing down the Manistee River or Backpacking on North Manitou Island. There is no better way to strengthen family bonds and develop a true love of the outdoors than going camping as a family.
2014 Manistee Canoe Trip - Canoe for four days down the unspoiled and meandering Manistee River. The Manistee is home to crystal clear smaller rivers, pure water springs that flow into it, and very little development along its banks.
2014 Hiking North Manitou Island - Hike for four days on North Manitou Island – just a short ferry ride from Leland, MI. The island is a primitive experience that emphasizes a sense of exploration for the whole family to enjoy together.
2014 Family Adventure Trips: Session 6, August 10-15
If you are interested in the Family Adventure Trips but do not fit the above description, contact Program Director Meredith Stevens to discuss your options.
How many people will be on the trips? Each trip will have 4-12 participants, which means that families can expect to experience the trip with other families – one of the highlights of trips of this nature is forming great bonds with fellow trippers.
What is the trip itinerary? Like all of Camp Echo’s adventure trips, the Family Adventure Trips will start and end at Camp Echo. Families will have the option of taking the Camp Echo buses to camp on August 10th or driving themselves to camp. Families will have day to get to know each other, go over the trip details together, and pack out the gear before departing Camp Echo on Monday morning. The group will return to Camp Echo Thursday evening, in time for the closing campfire, and return to Evanston on Friday morning with the rest of the Session 6 campers!
Who will be leading the trips? The Family Adventure Trips will be led by Camp Echo’s Adventure Trips Guides, who are at least 21 years old and have Wilderness First Responder and Lifeguard certifications.
I have more questions! We are happy to answer all of your questions. Contact Program Director Meredith Stevens and she will answer anything and everything!
