The McGaw Y is committed to programs that support your children’s success in school. Reading is a fundamental part of that success, and extra practice and guidance during the early years will help create a strong foundation throughout their schooling.
Since 2001 the McGaw YMCA’s Foster Reading Center has provided children in grades K-2 with:
- A daily hour of music, dance, and drama activities that build vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension.
- A supportive place to do homework, with daily help from high school student volunteers, adult volunteers, and America Reads work-study students with Northwestern University.
- A vast library of reading material, organized by reading ability.
The Foster Reading Center is located at 2010 Dewey Ave in Evanston, on the second floor.
