Dear McGaw YMCA community The tragedy at the Highland Park Fourth of July parade is a heartbreaking moment that has changed the lives of children, families, and an entire community forever. My heart is heavy as I think about their journeys ahead as they navigate the incredible pain and grief of surviving gun violence. Like our neighbors to the north, many children and families and community members were preparing to watch Evanston’s Fourth of July parade later that afternoon. Some were even planning to walk with me and other McGaw YMCA supporters along the parade route. McGaw YMCA Offers Free Outdoor Fitness Classes Through August

EVANSTON, ILLINOIS — McGaw YMCA is offering a variety of free outdoor fitness classes this summer. This series of fitness classes is designed to encourage physical activity and community well-being by providing greater access to fitness offerings in public spaces. Parent and Child fitness – Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays starting July 5. Join McGaw YMCA fitness instructors for Preschool Yoga, Oh Baby! Parent & Baby Fitness, and Oh Baby! Stroller Workout each week in Raymond Park beginning July 5. Classes are free and open to all. Registration is requested. For class schedule information and to sign up, visit bit.ly/mcgawohbaby. Pop-up in the Park fitness – Fridays starting July 8. Experience some of the Y’s most popular group fitness offerings with Pop-up in the Park classes. City Council approves $3 million ARPA allocation to McGaw YMCA men’s residence renovation

Published by The Daily Northwestern on June 14, 2022 City Council voted 6-1 to approve a $3 million allocation of American Rescue Plan Act funding to support the renovation of The McGaw YMCA’s Men’s Residence on Monday. “Our goal is to continue to support a key constituency of our residents in our city as we have done for 137 years,” McGaw YMCA Board Chair Janine Hill said. “We take our role in providing one of the most basic rights — the right to have affordable, safe housing — very seriously.” The nonprofit organization, which also offers gym facilities and wellness programs, houses more than 100 residents in its 92-year-old building on Grove St. One of the few remaining single-room occupancy options in the Chicago area, the McGaw YMCA program provides accessible housing for men ages 18 and older.
