Photo credit: Evanston RoundTable The McGaw YMCA is deeply saddened by the passing of the Honorable Delores Holmes, a beloved Elder, community leader, and champion for equity and justice in Evanston. She was a formidable presence, dedicating her life to strengthening our community with unwavering integrity, wisdom, and grace. Throughout her youth, Ms. Holmes was an active member of the historic Emerson Street Branch YMCA, where she participated in clubs, dances, and other social activities. In a video interview, she reflected on the meaningful connections she made there and the vital role the Emerson Street Y played in the community. Ms. Holmes was widely recognized for her public service as a longtime Fifth Ward Alderwoman and advocate for youth-serving nonprofits, including the McGaw YMCA.
