Member Spotlight: Meet Brenda! She’s been a member of the McGaw YMCA for the last year or so and has been loving our Fitness Challenges, trying new things and staying motivated every step of the way! She enjoys the Y because it’s a warm, supportive community where people can reach their fitness goals. “All of my instructors have been amazing and very encouraging. The Y has made a difference in my fitness and health journey,” Brenda shares. Fun fact: Her kids and extended family have been attending Camp Echo for over 20 years, inspiring her to join the Y, too! Adult Private Swim Instructor

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the swim instructor delivers the YMCA swim lesson curriculum in group swim lessons and private/semi-private swim lessons. The swim instructor will be responsible for building strong and confident swimmers by creating opportunities that build a sense of achievement and ensure their safety in and around water. Salary Range: $28.00 per hour Department: Aquatics Employment Type: Part-time hourly, Non-Exempt Days/Hours: Varies, 2-10 hours per week. Essential Functions Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly that meet the needs of the participants. Communicates and builds effective relationships with swimmers and parents. Communicates information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers swimmers and parents to other programs. Responsible for the safety of the participants in their classes. Group Fitness Instructor

The McGaw YMCA is looking for enthusiastic group fitness instructors. Applicants must have a strong fitness background and be able to teach structured classes to all levels for fun and fitness. We are looking for friendly, attentive, safety-oriented instructors who can communicate effectively to participants. Applicants should be able to motivate participants while paying particular attention to explaining proper technique and demonstrating exercises. Applicants should also be able to give alternative exercises during class for different skill and fitness levels. All types of group fitness formats are welcome, but classes specifically designed to improve cardiovascular health, strength, and mobility of participants are highly desired.
