Dear McGaw YMCA Community,
You are receiving this email because you are, or were, part of McGaw YMCA or Camp Echo programs.
Today, October 25, McGaw YMCA and Camp Echo learned of the arrest of Mathew Laird on allegations of criminal sexual assault and child pornography. Mr. Laird was employed at Camp Echo for four summers, 2006 through 2009. Upon examination of our records, there are no reports of any complaints against him relating to his time of employment.
We immediately reached out to the Glenview police and are committed to support their investigation as needed. If anyone has relevant, helpful information to share with the police, please contact Detective Medina or Detective Herndon.
In all of our programming, the safety of youth is the first priority. We routinely follow the guidelines set forth by the Praesidium Safety Equation®, which define how to prevent the sexual abuse of children. All employees are required to successfully complete a background check and essential skills interview to assess if anything in the individual’s history may pose a danger to youth. Additionally, our staff is trained on sexual harassment, preventing child molestation, and mandatory reporting requirements.
Like you, I find the possibility of these allegations deeply concerning. The McGaw Y and Camp Echo continuously strive to create an environment where trust and security remain the foundation of our programs.
