Staff Training is a mandatory and invaluable time up at camp before the summer starts. Save for still being in school, all people hired for positions listed below are required to attend staff training.
Summer 2022 Staff Training Dates
Summer Leadership & Adventure Trip Guides: May 22
All Staff: June 1
Junior Staff: TBD
*All staff trainings go through Friday, June 10
Staff and volunteers at Camp Echo are required to have varying degrees of certification, based on the responsibilities and tasks that their job entails.
All staff and volunteers at Camp Echo are expected to have CPR and First Aid certifications by an approved certifying body
The certification form is not due the same date as all other paperwork as listed on your Letter of Agreement. However, all certifications must be uploaded before your arrival to Camp Echo this summer (for staff training or first session of work).
Although Lifeguard certification is not required to work at Camp Echo, it is strongly encouraged and is required for anyone working as Wilderness Teen or Trip Staff. The Camp Echo salary scale offers a $36/week incentive for Lifeguards, which roughly pays you back in one full summer. This is built into the positions for which it is required and is a boost for other positions when relevant to the role (like counselors).
American Red Cross certifications are the preferred certifications, but not the only acceptable ones. To know if a certification you are looking at is OK, please check this link: Lifeguarding
International staff members interested in lifeguard certification should look for the British program “National Pool Lifeguard Qualification”.? Once at camp, you will work with our other lifeguards to form cohesive rescue responses.?RLSS UK?is a great site to find a course near you.
If you have any specific questions about Lifeguarding or CPR/First Aid, please contact On-Site Program Manager, Sid Long
Wilderness First Responder
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification is required for Adventure Trip Guides and Trip Unit Leaders. The Camp Echo salary scale offers a $60/week incentive for Guides who are WFRs.
Camp Echo typically hosts a WFR course in the spring. There are limited spots available in this WFR training. Priority is given to Adventure Trip Guides who are committed to working all-summer, followed by Adventure Trip Guides working partial summers, and finally non-Adventure Trip Guides. Spots will be confirmed by the Camp Echo Adventure Trip Coordinator. Note that staff who receive the WFR training at Camp Echo are not eligible for the WFR salary boost of $60/week during the summer that they receive the training – as a 2-year training, they would be eligible the following year.
The WFR dates for 2022 are May 14 -18.
Staff may also recertify their WFRs during this course if participation for first time certifications isn’t maxed out. These opportunities would be given to full summer staff on first-come, first-serve basis.
Sign up for this course will start in the spring. If you have any questions about the WFR course please contact our team at firstname.lastname@example.org
