Season’s Greetings from the YMCA

As we close another memorable year at the McGaw YMCA, I am inspired by the incredible stories of growth, connection, and community that define who we are. Every day, we see children learning to swim, neighbors finding stable housing, families staying active together, and elders discovering new interests and hobbies. In 2024, we celebrated key milestones, including the return of our Annual Gala and 100 years of Camp Echo! Our membership grew, and our community partnerships strengthened, solidifying our role as a leader in empowering youth and improving community wellness. We also made significant progress in planning and preparing for the Men’s Residence Renovation Project Capital Campaign, which is designed to give our Resident Members a modern, dignified home while enhancing our capacity to address critical housing needs here in Evanston. McGaw YMCA Board Welcomes Seven New Members

  Seven new board members were announced at the 139th Annual Meeting. Pictured (Front row, left to right) Denise Barreto, Peter Braithwaite, Carrie Charles, and Mary Finn. EVANSTON, IL – The McGaw YMCA announced the election of seven new members to its Board of Directors during its 139th Annual Meeting on December 10. These community-focused individuals join a dedicated volunteer board that helps guide the nonprofit’s strategic direction and efforts to strengthen the community. Elected by the McGaw Y membership, the following individuals will serve three-year terms: Denise Barreto, Chief Equity and Engagement Officer, Chicago Transit Authority Peter Braithwaite, Director of Procurement Diversity and Community Engagement, Northwestern University Carrie Charles, Financial Consultant Mary Finn, retired administrator, Northwestern University Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences Marlee Hendricks, Director of Public Health Administration at Cook County Department of Public Health

Reconnect, Reminisce, and Celebrate the Season!  Celebrate the season and reconnect with fellow Camp Echo recent alumni at this year’s Holiday Gathering! Join the Camp Echo team for this festive event at Firehouse Grill in Evanston on December 21 from 3:00-6:00PM to reconnect, share camp memories, hear the latest camp updates, and celebrate the lasting impact of the Camp Echo spirit! This is a 21+ event and intended for alumni who attended or worked at Camp Echo from 2010 onward. Camp Echo gear is welcome and encouraged.
