McGaw Y Swim Team Brings Home Top Finishes in YMCA National Championship

EVANSTON, IL. – Four McGaw YMCA Swim Team (MYST) swimmers competed in the 2023 YMCA National Long Course Championship, with several bringing home top finishes and team records. This prestigious competition was held in July in Greensboro, North Carolina, and brought together over 2,000 of the most talented young swimmers from across the nation. With months of dedicated training, commitment, and teamwork, MYST was eager to showcase their skills and compete among 78 YMCA teams at the national level. Coached by Michael Fleming, the team demonstrated talent and perseverance at the meet, making them strong contenders in various swimming disciplines. Rayburn Kohl brought home four Team Records and three Top 8 finishes in the 50-100-200 backstroke. He is also the first swimmer to achieve three Top 8 finishes in MYST history. McGaw Y President Shares Success of Boys & Young Men of Color Strategy, MetaMedia, at 2023 General Assembly

EVANSTON, IL. – Monique Parsons, McGaw YMCA President/CEO, took the stage at the 2023 General Assembly of YMCAs in Atlanta, GA, to emphasize the importance of using the YMCA Boys & Young Men of Color (BYMOC) Strategy in youth-serving programs like MetaMedia. The BYMOC Strategy aims to empower boys and young men of color to achieve their full potential through targeted support and investment in their pathways to success. Since its launch in 2018, the BYMOC Initiative has been operationalized at the community level by a cohort of local Ys in 26 cities and 16 states, including McGaw YMCA. To date, these Ys have collectively served 1,400 boys and young men of color. As the demand for aligning school participation with workforce development grows, the focus on boys and young men of color has become increasingly critical. By the end of 2024, the cohort will grow to include 100 cities,
