The Children’s Center is a community leader in addressing the achievement gap. At the Y, we believe all students need equal access to the necessary resources in order to realize their potential. With the support of our community, our Y Readers and Power Scholars Academy summer programs help children be successful at school and beyond!
Students are selected by their school, based on their specific academic needs, to be a part of Y Readers or Power Scholars Academy. Once selected, students can enroll in these free six-week summer learning experiences that are run in partnership with McGaw YMCA, District 65, YUSA, BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life), and community volunteers. Both programs are designed to help advance students’ academic achievement through a full-day of instruction that combines rigorous literacy and math with hands-on enrichment activities, such as Character Development, Art, STEM, PE, Music, beach trips, and field trips.
Our Summer Learning programs are supported by generous donors and volunteers. If you would like more information on how to get involved, we would love to hear from you! Give us a call at (847) 475-8580 to see how you can help support these programs.
