COVID-19 Update: We are working on our plan for 2021 Summer Learning as allowed by state and local restrictions. Stay tuned for more information.
The Children’s Center is a community leader in addressing the achievement gap. At the Y, we believe all students need equal access to the necessary resources in order to realize their potential. With the support of our community, our Power Scholars Academy summer programs help children be successful at school and beyond!
Students are selected by their school, based on their specific academic needs, to be a part of Power Scholars Academy. Once selected, students can enroll in these free six-week summer learning experiences. The program is designed to help advance students’ academic achievement through a full-day of instruction that combines rigorous literacy and math with hands-on enrichment activities, such as Character Development, Art, STEM, PE, Music, beach trips, and field trips.
Our Summer Learning programs are run by the McGaw YMCA in partnership with Evanston/Skokie School District 65, the City of Evanston, Y-USA, BellXcel (Building Educated Leaders for Life), and community volunteers.
