Pool Technician

The McGaw YMCA is seeking highly motivated Pool Technician to join our dynamic and diverse team. As the Pool/Plumbing Technician, you will be responsible for the general maintenance and repairs for our facilities swimming pools. The overall goal is to improve member satisfaction when it comes to cleanliness and safety in our facilities. It is our highest priority that at all times our staff is courteous, pleasant and cooperative to our staff and members.

Salary Range: Starting at $16.10 per hour

Department: Building Services

Employment Type: Part-time

Days/Hours: Mondays and Fridays, 4:00 – 10:00 p.m., Saturday, 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, 1:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Essential Functions:

  • Cleans and maintains filled pools and facilities by skimming, vacuuming, and performing chemical treatments.
  • Periodically empties pools to perform deep cleaning, including brushing and scrubbing walls, floors, and surfaces.
  • Regularly tests pool water for pH; chlorine; presence of bacteria, algae, or contaminants; and other data.
  • Ensures correct color, chemistry, and clarity of pool water.
  • Calculates and adds chemical treatments to maintain pH balance, eliminate contaminants, or correct other problems.
  • Inspects pool and equipment; troubleshoots and repairs identified issues.
  • Completes and maintains daily logs outlining chemical usage, water quality, repairs, and supplies.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs automated control systems, intake and drain valves, pumps, motors, and chemical and leak detection systems.
  • Resolves client or customer problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Experience/Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Extensive understanding of repairs, automation, equipment, and piping related to swimming pools.
  • Mechanical and manual labor skills related to aquatic facilities and equipment.
  • Math skills to calculate chemical additives and ratios.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to maintain logs and records.
  • CPO Certification.
