The Summer Learning Program (SLP) Teacher Assistant supports the SLP Teacher in creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment for students. Reporting to the Instructional Coordinator, the Teacher Assistant helps implement lessons, facilitate activities, and provide academic and social-emotional support to students. This role is key to ensuring a safe, enriching, and positive experience for all participants by fostering curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning throughout the summer.
The Teacher Assistant must be able to build strong, supportive relationships with students, particularly those historically underrepresented in achievement gap data, and contribute to an environment that affirms their strengths, identities, and potential for success.
Salary Range: $21 – $25 per hour

Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, maximum 25 hours weekly
Experience/Education/Certification Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age, or older.
- A minimum of two years’ classroom experience in an early childhood, elementary education, or youth development setting.
- Strong group management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, particularly those historically underrepresented in achievement gap data, and support their academic and social-emotional growth.
- Experience supporting instruction and facilitating interactive, hands-on learning experiences, particularly in literacy, math, academic enrichment, and the arts.
- Effective communication skills, including speaking, listening, and writing, for engaging with both children and adults.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the needs of students and program changes.
- Must have current certification in CPR and First Aid from American Red Cross, or other approved organization OR be able to obtain it before the program’s start date.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose and goals, childcare policies, and YMCA standards; ensures the program meets the highest standards of excellence.
