Summer Learning Program Enrichment Assistant

The Summer Learning Program (SLP) Enrichment Assistant (EA) supports the Enrichment Lead in the implementation and facilitation of enrichment activities within the Summer Learning Program. The EA plays a key role in fostering the academic, social, and emotional development of children, ensuring a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment for all students.

The EA works alongside the Enrichment Lead to introduce and guide activities in Arts, Music, Physical Activity, Character Development, STEM, and Nutrition Education, using a variety of resources provided by the Site Director. This role requires enthusiasm, teamwork, and a commitment to delivering enriching and impactful experiences that support the growth and engagement of all students.

The ideal candidate will have experience or a willingness to work with students who are overrepresented in achievement gap data. They should demonstrate the ability to build strong, supportive relationships with students, creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every child feels valued and engaged.

Salary Range: $14 – $16 per hour

Employment Type: Temporary Hourly Seasonal – Non-Exempt

Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, 35 hours weekly

Essential Functions:

  • Supports the facilitation of purposeful and engaging activities that complement the program’s thematic agenda and meets program quality and fidelity.
  • Follows program curriculum in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants.
  • Provides careful, attentive supervision; alert at all times.
  • Serves as a positive role model, demonstrates professional behavior and understand positive youth development approaches to the academic and social development of youth.
  • Facilitates a program environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children.
  • Maintains 2:15 ratio throughout the enrichment portion of the day.
  • Ensures the safety and engagement of all children.
  • Proactively manages classroom behavior.

Experience/Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. One or more years of college or equivalent professional experience in the field of Youth Development preferred.
  • A minimum of one year experience working with children in lower elementary grades, with a strong understanding of child development and positive youth development approaches.
  • Experience or willingness to work with students overrepresented in achievement gap data, committed to equitable learning opportunities.
  • Strong leadership and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and support students in their academic and social development.
  • Exceptional group management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills, focusing on maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Must have strong leadership and diplomacy skills.
  • Willingness to support the Enrichment Lead in creating, planning, and facilitating interactive and educational activities, including STEM, arts, physical activity, youth development, and academic enrichment.
  • Must possess strong communication skills (speaking, listening, and writing) to interact effectively with both children and adults.
  • Must be capable of implementing daily program responsibilities and adapting to the needs of students and the program.
  • Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, demonstrating a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Must have current certification in CPR and First Aid from American Red Cross, or other approved organization OR be able to obtain it before the program’s start date.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose and goals, childcare policies and YMCA standards; ensures the program meets the highest standards of excellence.
