Summer Learning Program Enrichment Lead

The Summer Learning Program (SLP) Enrichment Lead (EL) supports the Site Director in planning, implementing, and facilitating enrichment activities for the SLP. The EL plays a key role in fostering the academic and social development of children and ensuring a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.

The EL utilizes a variety of resources provided by the Site Director to introduce and lead activities in Arts, Music, Physical Activity, Character Development, STEM, and Nutrition Education. This role requires creativity, enthusiasm, and a commitment to providing enriching experiences that support student growth and engagement.

Successful candidates should have experience working with students overrepresented in achievement gap data and a strong understanding of creating supportive and equitable learning opportunities. Additionally, ELs must build strong relationships with students, support their positive development, and lead engaging group activities with confidence and enthusiasm. Staff should be energetic, proactive, and skilled in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Salary Range: $15 – $18 per hour

Department: Summer Learning

Employment Type: Temporary Hourly Seasonal – Non-Exempt

Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, maximum 35 hours weekly

Experience/Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. One or more years of college or equivalent professional experience in the field of Youth Development. Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with children in lower elementary grades, with a strong understanding of child development.
  • Experience working with students overrepresented in achievement gap data, committed to fostering equitable learning opportunities.
  • Strong leadership and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and inspire youth.
  • Exceptional group management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills to maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Experience in creating, planning, and facilitating interactive and educational enrichment activities, including STEM, arts, physical activity, youth development, and academic enrichment.
  • Strong communication skills, including speaking, listening, and writing, to effectively interact with both children and adults.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Must have current certification in CPR and First Aid from American Red Cross, or other approved organization OR be able to obtain it before the program’s start date.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose and goals, childcare policies, and YMCA standards; ensures the program meets the highest standards of excellence.
