Summer Learning Program Teacher

The Summer Learning Program (SLP) Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality literacy and math instruction, implementing the assigned curriculum with fidelity to ensure program goals and student learning outcomes are met. Under the supervision of the Summer Learning Program Instructional Coach, the Teacher uses data-driven, equitable instructional practices to support the academic growth of elementary students who are overrepresented in achievement gap data.

The Teacher fosters a safe, enriching, and engaging learning environment that promotes both academic progress and social-emotional development. They collaborate effectively with the Instructional Coach, fellow Teachers, and Teacher Assistants to create a cohesive instructional team. Additionally, the Teacher actively participates in professional development, attending pre-program training and engaging in ongoing training and support sessions throughout the six-week program to continuously improve instructional effectiveness.

Salary Range: $38 – $43 per hour

Department: Summer Learning

Employment Type: Temporary Hourly Seasonal – Non-Exempt

Days/Hours: Monday – Thursday, maximum 25 hours weekly

Experience/Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age, or older.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education required.
  • Current State teaching certification.
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience in an elementary education setting.
  • Strong instructional skills in literacy and math, with experience implementing curriculum with fidelity to support student learning outcomes.
  • Experience working with elementary students who are overrepresented in achievement gap data, using equitable instructional strategies to promote academic growth.
  • Effective classroom management and student engagement skills, with the ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities, with a proactive approach to addressing student needs.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and listening) for effective collaboration with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Instructional Coach, fellow teachers, and support staff to ensure a cohesive instructional team.
  • Commitment to professional growth, including participation in pre-program training and ongoing development sessions throughout the six-week program.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the dynamic needs of students and the program.
  • Must have current certification in CPR and First Aid from American Red Cross, or other approved organization OR be able to obtain it before the program’s start date.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose and goals, childcare policies and YMCA standards; ensure the program meets the highest standards of excellence.
