McGaw YMCA Board Welcomes Three New Members

The Board of Directors sets strategic direction and policy to support the Y’s mission and vision of becoming a place of belonging for all people at every stage of life.

EVANSTON, IL — McGaw YMCA is pleased to announce the addition of three new members to its Board of Directors. The appointment underscores the YMCA’s commitment to reflecting the unique talent and voices of Evanston’s diverse and vibrant community.

The new board members are:

Brandon Buchanan, Director, Health Equity, NorthShore University HealthSystem. Brandon is a is a writer, mentor, and community health advocate who is passionate about improving healthcare equity for people and underserved communities. In his role at NorthShore, Brandon is responsible for promoting the vision of health equity and developing interventions to eliminate health disparities and barriers to accessing high-quality and coordinated care. Brandon graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Community Health, earned a Master of Health Administration from The Ohio State University, and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. In his free time, he enjoys writing and collecting postcards with his husband, Joe. He also is an advocate of mentorship and actively encourages Black youth to pursue healthcare related fields.

Nosa Ehimwenman, President & CEO, Bowa Construction. Nosa worked through high school as a laborer and carpenter with his father, gaining a life-long passion for construction and a focused work ethic. Before starting his own company, Nosa worked with Gilbane Building Company. His experience in construction management spans through K-12, mission critical, higher education, retail, healthcare, interior renovations, residential, and financial institutions. He built Bowa Construction on the notion of civic engagement, believing that companies should do more than simply perform projects in a community. Nosa holds an MBA from Purdue University and a bachelor’s degree in Construction Systems Management from The Ohio State University, where he was an All-American full-scholarship student-athlete in Track & Field. Nosa serves as a member of several community-focused boards in Chicago; an executive board member of North Branch Works, The University Illinois Chicago Children’s Hospital, and the Accelerate Institute.

Sarah McHolland, Co-Owner, Paperwhite Florals; Interior Designer. Sarah brings a deep understanding of the Evanston community as a lifelong resident, parent, spouse, business owner, ETHS graduate and McGaw Y Camp Echo alum. She studied Art at Loyola University Chicago and her work as an Interior Designer has granted her opportunities to work on a variety of homes throughout the area. In addition to being the proud co-owner of Paperwhite Florals, a floral design company in Evanston, Sarah has held leadership roles on several community-focused boards, including Covent Nursery School, Highland School PTA in Skokie, the ETHS Booster Club, and The Garden Club of Evanston.

“As a leading nonprofit that supports the Evanston community, we believe McGaw YMCA has a key role in addressing inequities and strengthening our community as we focus on our mission to cultivate the whole person through transformational experiences,” said Monique Parsons, President and CEO. “Each of these new members will contribute valuable insights to our board to help make it possible to do this work. We’re incredibly grateful to our volunteer leadership.”
