McGaw Y Board Slate of Nominees

Each year, the Board of Directors holds an Annual Meeting of the Association, and the Membership of the McGaw YMCA elects a new cohort of individuals to serve on the Board.

Both the Board Governance and Development Committee and Monique Parsons, President/CEO, have vetted the slate of candidates below and are recommending these members of the Evanston community for election to the Board of Directors by the Membership.

Current McGaw members will receive an email at 8:00 a.m. (CDT) on September 10 with a link to the virtual ballot to cast their vote. Voting will close at 11:59 p.m. (CDT) on September 10.

The Board election results will be shared at the McGaw YMCA Annual Meeting, which will be held virtually on Monday, September 13, 2021, at 7:00 p.m.

NEW BOARD MEMBER NOMINEES (3-YEAR TERM)

The following slate of new candidates is up for election during the September 10 election (presented in alphabetical order).

Michael Cornell has more than 20 years of management experience in construction and commercial real estate brokerage, and he brings a wide range of practical knowledge to his positions at Brinshore Development and BCM, LLC. He has been involved in the coordination and management of construction projects valued in excess of $600 million and, with BCM has participated in the completion of 32 projects totaling over 1,700 units of housing. Michael is a LEED Accredited Professional with a strong interest in sustainable design and community growth.

Michael serves on the Board of Directors for Housing Opportunity Development Corporation (HODC), and is co-founder of WithinSight, an organization that helps fundraise and generate awareness for vision related not-for-profits. Michael earned a BA from DePauw University.


Curt Hansen grew up in Iowa and relocated to Chicago in 2010. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Loras College in 2009. Curt has worked at Wintrust Financial for 10 years, where he helped open Wintrust’s first two Evanston locations at 1740 Sherman, and 901 Grove Street. He currently serves as the manager for Evanston Community Bank at the Grove Street location. Curt has also been active in the community, hosting non-profit board meetings, participating in career panels at ETHS, and Junior Achievement at Evanston schools.

Curt has been on the Advancement Committee with the McGaw YMCA since 2019. He has most recently been conducting financial literacy for the Men’s residency program. Curt is a board member and Treasurer for the Rotary Club of Evanston, and a recent graduate of Evanston Community Foundation’s program Leadership Evanston.


Katherine Heid is senior counsel at Early Warning, the company that operates the payment service Zelle®. Katherine has been an attorney in the financial industry for over six years. Her areas of expertise include marketing, payments, loan origination and collections.

Prior to going in-house, Katherine was a litigator at a large firm in Chicago representing corporations and individuals in a wide range of matters. Katherine continues to represent refugees seeking political asylum on a pro bono basis. More locally, she coordinates a soup kitchen in Evanston eight times a year. When Katherine is not working or volunteering, she loves traveling with her children, exploring, trying new food, reading and running.


Sebastian Nalls is 21 years old. He is a senior at Purdue University double majoring in Accounting and Political Science with a minor in Sociology.

Sebastian concluded his run for mayor of Evanston in February of 2021 and has since become a community activist working on many issues that impact our larger community such as early childcare access, youth and young adult development, and transitional programs.

Evanston and its community helped shape Sebastian into the man he is today, and he looks forward to giving back to his hometown in any way possible.


Ryan Ollie currently serves as the Manager of Facilities Operations at one of the largest hospitals in Lake County, IL. He has led the facilities team since 2018. Prior to his current role, Ryan served in various engineering roles within the building design and operations space. During this time, he provided engineering services within the commercial, industrial, healthcare, and institutional market sectors for approximately 7 years.

Ryan graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Master’s degree in Energy Engineering.

Growing up in Evanston, Ryan has many fond memories of participating in various YMCA programs and would love to continue his involvement with the YMCA as a member of the board.
