Three new board members were announced at the 138th Annual Meeting on August 8.
EVANSTON, IL – The McGaw YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community, announced the election of three new members to serve three-year terms on its Board of Directors. The announcement was made at the 138th Annual Meeting held August 8.
The following community leaders have been elected to the board:
- Monique Holland, Deputy Director of Athletics/Chief of Staff at Northwestern University
- Philina King, General Counsel at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office
- Jeremy Yonan, Vice President, Head of Total Rewards and HRIS at Upwork

The Annual Meeting was held at the McGaw YMCA with an online option offered for those who wished to attend virtually. Those in attendance had an opportunity to celebrate the Y’s volunteer board members and hear from President & CEO Monique Parsons, who provided an update on the McGaw Y’s strategic plan and shared a vision for the year ahead.
“This year has been filled with incredible milestones and inspiring moments that have brought us closer to our mission of cultivating the whole person, strengthening community, and providing equitable access to transformational experiences that uplift the spirit, mind, and body,” said Parsons at the Annual Meeting.
Parsons shared McGaw YMCA’s priorities for the coming year, outlined in her full remarks. She emphasized the Y’s unwavering commitment to upholding its mission and strategic goals, ensuring a sustained impact within the Evanston community for years ahead.
“We remain committed to responding to and prioritizing the needs of our community while maintaining transparency in sharing the impact of our efforts,” Parsons explained. “With the support of our dedicated staff and volunteers, committed members, generous donors, and community partners, we look forward to serving Evanston for another century, and beyond,” she added.
Board Chair Janine Hill expressed the Board’s support for the positive impact that McGaw YMCA has had on the lives of countless individuals.
“Our programs have empowered individuals over the life course to grow, learn, and flourish; they have offered solutions to those facing difficult circumstances, and they have fostered a sense of belonging right here in the heart of Evanston that is truly unparalleled,” Hill said.
Several board members were re-elected, including Mireya Dominguez and Sarita Smith to serve a three-year term. At the meeting, the Board announced its new officers to serve for a one-year term: Mark Metz, chair; Sarita Smith, vice chair; Marjorie Rallins, secretary; and Vince Sweeney, treasurer. In addition, the Board highlighted its new Executive Committee Members-at-large: Marquis Parker, Allie Payne, Lisa Yang
The Board also thanked its retiring board members for their years of service and dedication – Omar Brown, Angela Edwards-Campbell, Janine Hill, Casey Miller and Evonda Thomas-Smith.
Hill shared that her eighth and final year on the Board will come to an end on August 31, 2023.
“Serving on this Board and as the chair has been one of the most impactful highlights of my professional life, and I look forward to the work of this new volunteer leadership team,” Hill said. “I will continue my support of this organization, and I hope you will too.”
