The project aims to improve how visitors find their way around the 1000 Grove Street building

EVANSTON, IL McGaw YMCA is excited to announce the launch of a comprehensive Signage & Wayfinding project for its main building located at 1000 Grove Street. The project seeks to elevate the visitor experience, making it easier and more enjoyable to navigate the facility and access amenities, programs, and resources.

The project will span several years and focus on four key areas: interior signs and wayfinding, exterior signs and parking lots, donor recognition and heritage signs, and updating signs in the Men’s Residence following its renovation. The phased approach will streamline navigation within and around the building, better highlight the Y’s wide range of amenities, and strengthen the YMCA brand. This initiative aligns with McGaw YMCA’s mission to provide equitable access to transformational experiences and its vision of being a place of belonging for all.

Whether you’re coming into our historic building for the first time or have been a regular visitor for years, we know our YMCA can be a challenge to navigate. This project isn’t just about improving the physical space; it’s about reinforcing our mission to making sure everyone feels like they belong from the moment they arrive,” affirmed Monique Parsons, McGaw Y President/CEO.

Evangeline Semark, the project lead and Chief Marketing and Communication Officer, believes that the updated sign system will encourage members, guests, and staff to explore more amenities, discover new programs and services, and experience a more welcoming environment that reflects the YMCA’s commitment to community.

“Clear, effective signage does more than just guide our steps; it cultivates a sense of belonging by reducing barriers and making it easier for everyone to find their way through our building so they can connect with what matters most,” shared Semark.

McGaw YMCA invites stakeholders to participate in a brief survey. Feedback gathered through the survey will help inform the project team of improvements to consider. To participate in the survey, please visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/mcgawymcasignage before March 15.
