FREMONT, MI.  – McGaw YMCA is thrilled to announce the completion of Camp Echo’s Dining Hall extension just in time for Summer 2024. The addition of the new East Deck marks the first expansion of the historic Dining Hall and coincides with Camp Echo’s 100th-year anniversary.

“The expansion of our Dining Hall highlights our commitment to blending tradition with progress during our centennial year,” said Bernard Rocca, Executive Director of Camp Echo. “We’re excited to offer a more spacious and flexible dining experience, ensuring every camper feels welcomed and valued.”

During the Family Camp session held over Memorial Day Weekend, the inaugural group of campers experienced the Dining Hall extension firsthand, even using the new fireplace for closing ceremonies due to rain. This week, as Session 1 begins, the first group of youth campers will enjoy the new space. The addition of the East Deck accommodates an extra 100 more people, effectively increasing the dining capacity, easing congestion, and offering more flexibility during mealtimes. By modernizing this iconic space, Camp Echo offers a more inclusive and welcoming environment for campers, staff, and visitors alike.

“We are thrilled about this new chapter in Camp Echo’s journey,” said Monique Parsons, President and CEO of the McGaw YMCA. “As we celebrate a century of memories and milestones, this expansion sets the stage for continued innovation and growth, ensuring that Camp Echo remains a cherished destination for generations to come.”

The deck expansion was made possible through Camp Echo’s Major Gift Initiative, which has funded various projects to improve and expand the camp’s facilities. These projects include new cabins, upgraded staff areas, expanded camper facilities, program area enhancements, and essential operational upgrades like maintenance facilities and kitchen equipment.

“Camp Echo has been very fortunate to receive the generous support of donors throughout the Major Gift Initiative, which made these varied projects a reality for our community,” added Rocca.
