As we close another memorable year at the McGaw YMCA, I am inspired by the incredible stories of growth, connection, and community that define who we are. Every day, we see children learning to swim, neighbors finding stable housing, families staying active together, and elders discovering new interests and hobbies.
In 2024, we celebrated key milestones, including the return of our Annual Gala and 100 years of Camp Echo! Our membership grew, and our community partnerships strengthened, solidifying our role as a leader in empowering youth and improving community wellness. We also made significant progress in planning and preparing for the Men’s Residence Renovation Project Capital Campaign, which is designed to give our Resident Members a modern, dignified home while enhancing our capacity to address critical housing needs here in Evanston.
At our 139th Annual Meeting, we welcomed new board members, thanked retiring ones, and celebrated the season with our Resident Members at their holiday dinner—a tradition that embodies our mission.
As we celebrate, I’m also mindful that this year has presented challenges for many, including the rising cost of living and increased food insecurity in Evanston, especially among children. In response, our Y provided 170,158 nutritious meals to over 873 youth and families in 2024. Our community also faced the loss of several beloved leaders connected to our YMCA, including retired President/CEO Rev. Mark Dennis, Chief Bill Logan, and Hon. Delores Holmes, whose legacies will continue to strengthen our commitment to inclusivity, belonging, and support for all.
As we look toward 2025, we remain guided by our mission and strategic priorities to create meaningful, lasting change for those we serve. Our Y is committed to addressing our community’s needs with adaptability, courage, innovation, and a focus on the areas where we can make the greatest impact.
Thank you for your unwavering support—whether you’re among our dedicated staff, volunteers, members, donors, community partners, or neighbors. Your contributions are the heartbeat of the McGaw YMCA, ensuring we can create a community where hope shines bright and people matter.
On behalf of the McGaw YMCA, I wish you a peaceful and joyful holiday season filled with compassion, comfort, and togetherness.
