EVANSTON, IL – The spirit of generosity was in full bloom at the McGaw Y on May 8 during its 2025 YMCA Day of Giving. This annual 24-hour fundraising event brought the community together around a shared mission to create brighter futures in Evanston.

Thanks to the generosity of 130 donors, over $15,000 was raised—unlocking a matching gift and doubling the impact to more than $30,000 in support of McGaw YMCA’s life-changing programs and services.

The front lawn outside 1000 Grove Street was transformed into a colorful Garden of Gratitude, a vibrant display of pinwheels planted for every donation made. Each pinwheel symbolized a supporters’ commitment to creating brighter futures in Evanston by sustaining the Y’s vital programs and services, including high-quality child care and early education, nutritious meals, swim lessons, summer camps, and safe, affordable housing for men.

Generosity takes root: 130 donors raised $15,000+ at YMCA’s Day of Giving, represented by pinwheels in the Garden of Gratitude on the front lawn.

“We are incredibly grateful to the community for showing up in such a powerful way to support our Day of Giving,” said Monique Parsons, President/CEO of the McGaw YMCA. “Each pinwheel in our Garden of Gratitude symbolizes the generosity and connection that make our mission possible. As we look ahead to celebrating 140 years of McGaw YMCA this November, we’re honored to have such strong support in recognizing the lasting impact we’ve made together, creating brighter futures for all.”

The support raised through the Day of Giving will go directly to sustaining the YMCA’s work in Evanston, helping local families, children, and individuals thrive. Every dollar donated stays local and helps the Y provide life-changing programs that bring people together to connect to their potential, purpose, and each other. The McGaw YMCA extends its appreciation to donors, members, staff, and neighbors who made the 2025 Day of Giving a resounding success.
