Forever Fit Fitness Challenge
Let’s get moving! Together, we can build an Evanston that is active, even when we’re physically distant.
Join the 6-week member challenge to achieve a goal of 6,000 or 10,000 steps per day!
Starting October 19, join your McGaw YMCA community and track your steps each day. Stay accountable by logging your daily step count online and join the McGaw Fitness Facebook Group to stay motivated throughout the 6 weeks (and participate in an additional fun challenge each week)! Members who achieve their step goal each day will receive a “Forever Fit” t-shirt, and all participants will receive a McGaw YMCA water bottle.
BONUS: Members who complete the challenge will also be entered to win two free 30-minute Personal Training sessions!

WHY 6,000-10,000 STEPS?
The American Heart Association uses the 10,000 steps metric as a guideline to follow for improving health and decreasing risk of heart disease. We want to make sure that there is an option for everyone of all abilities with our challenges so you can choose which goal is best for you.
HOW MANY MILES PER DAY?
6,000 steps is roughly 3 miles and 10,000 steps is roughly 5 miles.

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR DAILY STEPS
- Reserve your spot and walk the track at the Y – 13 laps to the mile
- Take a walk with your spouse, child, dog, or friend
- Use the stairs instead of the elevator
- Park further away when going to the Y or the grocery store
PLACES TO WALK IN AND AROUND EVANSTON
- From the Y to the Lake walking down Lake Street is .7 miles
- The Skokie Sculpture park walk is 2 miles
- From the Y to the Bahá?í House of Worship is 2.2 miles
- The James Park loop is .75 miles
