On January 18, Governor Pritzker announced that Suburban Cook County (Region 10) has transitioned to Tier 2 Resurgence Mitigations. This change is effective immediately and will continue until further notice.
Beginning January 28, the McGaw YMCA will resume all in-person group exercise classes, including AquaFit, Yoga, NIA, Zumba and more. To adhere to Tier 2 requirements, classes will be limited to groups of up to 10 people and reservations are required. The updated indoor group exercise schedule will be available for reservations on McGaw MindBody beginning Friday, January 22.
What Is Open During Tier 2?
- Fitness Center, Pools, Gym & HIIT/Cycle Studio. Members can make reservations for lap swim, racquetball/squash courts, hoop reservations, the HIIT/Cycle Studio and the Fitness Center, which includes use of the track and strength training areas. Personal training (in-person and virtual) will also remain open. Face masks are required at all times except when swimming.
- In-Person & Virtual Group Exercise Classes, Programs & Activities. Beginning January 28, the McGaw Y will resume all in-person group exercise classes, including AquaFit, Yoga, NIA, Zumba and more. Classes will be limited to 10 people and reservations are required. All land classes will be held in the Sebring-Lewis Center Gym to allow for adequate physical distancing. We will continue to provide a variety of virtual fitness options with your favorite instructors at no additional charge to McGaw members.
- Early Childhood and School-Age Programs. McGaw will continue to operate its early childhood, Head Start, and School-Age Remote Plus programs for youth at our Children’s Center (1420 Maple Avenue) and Family Focus locations.
- McGaw’s Men’s Residence Program. Our Residence Program will continue to provide housing and wrap-around services for the 159 men who live at the McGaw YMCA.
- Active Older Adult Virtual Activities. We will continue to create virtual activities such as our virtual book club and provide technology training for our active older adult members.
How We’re Keeping You Safe
When you enter McGaw’s facilities, we have your well-being and safety in mind. We apply our stringent cleaning and physical-distancing practices each day and have spaced out reservations to allow us to operate at 25% of overall capacity in Tier 2, giving you plenty of room to work out in a clean and distanced environment. Masks are required at all times except when swimming and staff are onsite to help ensure compliance and provide support.
