EVANSTON, IL – On February 25, in partnership with the City of Evanston Health & Human Services Department, McGaw YMCA hosted a vaccination event in the Sebring-Lewis Center Gym to offer the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to McGaw Y residents and staff. More than 260 vaccines were administered by Evanston Fire Department paramedics.
President/CEO Monique Parsons, who received her first dose during the event, believes the vaccine is a necessary measure to help keep the Y’s resident men, staff, and the larger Evanston community healthy and safe:
“I’ve witnessed the devastating impact this virus has had on individuals, our YMCA, and our community, particularly for our Black and brown neighbors. Getting the vaccine is doing something greater than myself. I’m doing this for all of us.”
McGaw YMCA is proud to support the Evanston community with essential services, including housing inside of the Y for 155 men, early childhood programs for 150 children at 2 sites, remote learning support for 50 school age youth, Hybrid+ support in 3 District 65 schools, and an array of fitness and healthy living options for members of all ages.
A second vaccination event will be scheduled in the coming weeks to offer the final dose of the vaccine to McGaw Y residents and staff.
