McGaw YMCA Welcomes MetroSquash to Evanston
Mission-Focused Nonprofits Join Forces to Benefit Local Youth
Evanston, Illinois (June 18, 2018) – The McGaw YMCA continues its commitment to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility by announcing a partnership with the South Side Chicago-based nonprofit MetroSquash. Both organizations share a dedication to life-changing programming for youth in the community. MetroSquash is an after-school and summer program that incorporates the sport of squash with academic and enrichment support for youth in fifth grade through post-secondary graduation.
MetroSquash aligns with the McGaw Y’s commitment to academic achievement, healthy lifestyles and access to opportunity for youth. “Our most meaningful partnerships are with organizations who are like-minded in their values, support youth development and work in ways that balance each other’s strengths,” said McGaw President/CEO Monique Parsons. “When MetroSquash approached us to start a partnership, it was easy. They are complementary experts in program design and delivery. We are thrilled to expand the presence of youth and competitive squash at McGaw.”
MetroSquash CEO David Kay added, “We are thrilled to partner with a mission-aligned organization like the McGaw Y and are excited to introduce the game of squash as a vehicle to provide access to opportunity for students and families in the Evanston community.”
As part of the partnership, MetroSquash will be updating the McGaw Y’s squash/racquetball courts this summer. All six courts at McGaw will be closed temporarily for four to six weeks starting July 9. Working with District 65 principals at Chute and Nichols middle schools in Evanston this fall, MetroSquash aims to recruit 20 sixth grade students for its programming at McGaw. Additional applicants are also welcome. Participants in the program can stay involved through high school in addition to receiving post-secondary support.
