Youth Sports programs at the Y help children to grow personally, develop leadership skills, and cultivate relationships while having fun. Our sports programs include clinics, skill-building classes, and leagues as listed below.

Youth Sports Programs Include:
Basketball – Skills, Drills & Games (Grades K-5). Young athletes take to the court in learning the fundamentals of dribbling, passing and shooting, while staying active and building teamwork and leadership skills in a safe, clean environment with expert instructors and experienced mentors. Program combines fundamental drills and games followed by inter-squad scrimmages each session. This clinic is the perfect introduction or preparation for league play. Register here>
Basketball – Leagues (Grades 6-8). The McGaw YMCA Friday Night League combines fundamental skill drills and games, followed by round-robin style inter-squad scrimmages each night. Athletes focus on individual challenge and progressive skill development while learning tactical play, teamwork and leadership through expert instructors and experienced mentors. Register here>
Flag Football – Skills, Drills & Games (Grades 2-5). Kid and parent approved! Learn the skills of flag football without the hard-hitting form of full contact football. Passing, catching, and running drills will be taught in this exciting class. Children will learn the rules of football as well as team concepts, sportsmanship and leadership. Preschool Sports – Sports of all Sorts (Ages 3-6). Our littlest athletes are introduced to the world of Y sports with a focus on learning and growing with friends, improving hand-eye coordination and introducing the basic concepts of all sports we have to offer including soccer, basketball, t-ball, floor hockey and more! This fun, structured environment encourages participation, builds confidence and fosters a love for staying active. Preschool Sports – T-ball Skills, Drills & Games (Ages 3-6). This program is designed to teach children the basic skills in playing t-ball. Children will learn the proper techniques for throwing, fielding, running the bases, and hitting. Warm-up with a 30-minute practice before showing off your skills in a 30-minute game. Participants will need to supply their own gloves. Parents are asked to take an active role to ensure interactive participation that includes drills and games. Register here>
Volleyball – Lights Out Volleyball Clinic (Grades 2-8). Learn from the best in the community! Lights Out Volleyball is a non-profit organization that offers introductory and high-level instruction by professional players to elementary and high school youth (grades 2-12) across Chicago and metro Chicagoland. Experienced Lights Out Volleyball instructors, in partnership with the McGaw YMCA, guide youth through drills and games designed to learn volleyball fundamentals, teamwork and agility with a focus on the importance of movement and the fun of competition. Open Court
McGaw Y members of all ages are invited to drop in for Sebring-Lewis Center (SLC) Gym Open Court hours. Youth under the age of 11 must be accompanied by 1 adult member for Open Court.
There are also designated times for Youth Open Court (members between the ages of 11-14 or middle school students) and High School Open Court (members between the ages of 15-18 or high school students).

Sebring-Lewis Center Gym Safety Protocols

McGaw has put careful thought and planning into the return of our gym activities. Following guidance from the CDC, DCEO, and the City of Evanston Health Department, we’ve modified our gym policies, practices, and procedures to ensure a safe and fun experience for every participant to ensure everyone’s health and safety. Here’s what you can expect for your return to the Sebring-Lewis Center Gym:
- Masks required at all times for all staff and participants over the age of 2.
- Capacity is 30 members per court unless otherwise stated or determined by staff.
- Youth under the age of 11 must be accompanied by 1 adult member during Open Court times.
- Use of a personal ball is allowed; there will be balls and other gym equipment available for use.
- Make-up classes cannot be honored.
- No dunking permitted on the rims.
- A shirt and gym shoes must be worn on the court; no boots.
- No food permitted in the gym.
- Bring your own water bottle with a secure lid (water fountains will be available for bottle fill only).
- Disinfecting of high touch and common areas will take place throughout the day.
- All personal belongings must be placed in a locker.
