Michael Fleming
Head Coach
Michael is entering his fifth year as Head Coach of the McGaw YMCA Swim Team. He is an ASCA Level 3 coach with an extensive background in working with both Age Group and Senior level swimmers. Under his guidance MYST swimmers have been finalists at Districts, States, and YMCA Nationals. As the MYST Head Coach, Michael hopes that all swimmers benefit from their time on the team and enjoy learning how to become better swimmers.

Joe Agnew
Squid Squad & White Team
Joe is enjoying his 21st year as a MYST coach. He has been teaching swimming to people of all ages and abilities for 35-plus years. In addition to coaching Squid Squad and White Team, Joe also works with swimmers from beginning to intermediate and Masters level. He has been a regular morning lap swimmer at the McGaw Y since 1988.
Mary Carr
Squid Squad & White Team
Mary has been teaching swimming for over 20 years and is an invaluable member of the MYST coaching staff, having worked with our developmental team for 13 years.
She is an “Evanston Mom” with three of her four children swimming on MYST, one of whom also assists her in teaching a parent-tot class at the Y.
Colleen Cox
Squid Squad, White, & Blue Team
This is Colleen’s 11th season helping Joe and Mary coach Squid Squad and White teams. She began working with the team when her own six year old daughter joined MYST. Colleen developed a passion for swimming as a young adult and pursued training to enhance her own experience and commitment to the sport. She has been swimming for over thirty-five years, including several years as a member of the “Wild Catfish” (Evanston Masters Swimming Team).
Daniel Salovesh
Senior & Silver Teams
Daniel Salovesh grew up swimming for SUSA in Springfield, moved to Arizona and continued to swim through high school. He walked on to Northwestern’s varsity team and made finals at Big Tens his senior year. He currently lives in Lakeview, works in Glenview, and is excited to bring his experiences to the team.
Craig Strong
Purple & Green Teams
Craig Strong has been coaching competitive swimming at various levels for over 20 years, including USA Swimming Senior National level athletes and NCAA Division I swimming. For the past 10+ years he has been working with triathletes of all ages, open-water swimmers and competitive age group athletes at the McGaw YMCA and his business, Precision Multisport, located in Evanston. Craig lives in Evanston with his wife and two sons, both of which swim for MYST.
